A bond,
held in silk.
A portrait of the companion you know by heart, brought to life in silk through the art of Suzhou embroidery.
Three ways to remember forever.
Every collection begins with your photograph and ends with a signed, numbered work of silk — never a print, never a copy.
Where thread becomes light and shadow.
Dense stitch gives your companion form; open silk lets the light through — a painterly likeness that seems to breathe. Two formats, both framed and ready to hang.
- Painterly dense-and-sparse silk embroidery
- ~110 artisan hours on silk ground
- Solid oak frame with museum glass
- Complimentary digital preview before stitching
- Expanded composition, deeper tonal layering
- ~250 artisan hours on silk ground
- Custom hardwood framing, three finishes
- Named artisan of record + progress films
Some stories don’t fit a standard frame.
When the moment calls for more — more pets, more scene, more story — we design the piece with you in a private consultation, then quote it as one price. The only one of its kind, ever.
- Multi-pet families — the whole pack, together in one composition
- Full scenes & settings — the armchair, the garden, the mountain trail
- Memorial keepsakes — woven gently from the photographs you have
- Beyond the frame — life-size panels and artisan collaborations
One piece, one price — quoted privately after we understand your story.
From your photograph to your wall.

Within seven days, a digital stitch-plan of your portrait. Adjust it as many times as you wish — no needle touches silk until you say yes.
The quiet weeks
Your named artisan begins. Six to ten weeks of embroidery, with progress photographs at every milestone.
An heirloom arrives
Insured and duties prepaid, ready to hang — with its signed certificate, care guide, and the story of its making.
2,500 years, one thread at a time.
Su embroidery — one of China’s four great schools — has been passed from hand to hand since the Han dynasty. We practice it the slow way, because silk remembers patience.
-
The 1/64th split
A single silk thread is split by hand into as many as sixty-four strands — finer than a human hair — for fur that seems to breathe.
-
Light & void
In the xushi tradition, thread runs dense where your companion lives and thins into open silk where light should pass. The eye completes what the needle leaves unsaid.
-
A named artisan
Every portrait carries the signature of the master who made it — and the certificate to prove it.
The hands behind the silk.
Every Suzhou Threads portrait is stitched — start to finish — by one of our two master artisans in Suzhou. Their name, their hand, their certificate, arrives with your heirloom.
Master Lu Caifeng 陆彩凤
A state-certified Professor-Level Master of Arts and Crafts, honored as a National Light Industry Technical Expert, holding Su Embroidery's highest vocational grade. For over two decades she has devoted herself to the xushi dense-and-sparse tradition — every Silk & Shadow portrait passes through her hands alone, from first stitch to final knot.
Where the thread stops, the memory continues.
Master Wang Hui 王辉
A District-Level Representative Inheritor of Su Embroidery intangible cultural heritage, trained in a craft passed down through her own family. She designs and stitches every Bespoke commission personally — her 400+ registered works have taken gold and silver at national and provincial exhibitions.
I split a single silk thread into sixty-four — each strand a quieter voice for their spirit.

Before you begin.
Yes — always. Within seven days of your order you receive a complimentary digital preview of the stitch plan. Nothing begins until you approve it, and adjustments at this stage are unlimited.
Silk & Shadow portraits take six to ten weeks depending on format, plus insured shipping. Bespoke timelines are confirmed during your consultation. If a gift deadline matters, tell us — we’ll be honest about what’s possible.
A clear, well-lit photo taken at your pet’s eye level usually works best — natural light, no flash. If you’re unsure, send a few; we’ll help you choose, and for memorial portraits we can work beautifully with older photographs.
Yes — the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, the EU, and Australia. Every portrait ships fully insured with duties prepaid (DDP), so the price you see is the price you pay.
Gently, yes. Many of our portraits are memorials. We work from the photographs you already have, move at your pace, and never rush the conversation. If it helps, tell us as much or as little of the story as you wish.
Keep it out of prolonged direct sunlight and away from humidity — that’s most of it. Museum glass filters UV, and every portrait arrives with a care guide. Treated well, silk embroidery lasts for centuries; pieces from the Ming dynasty still hang today.
